Stretching along almost 100 miles (160 kilometers) of coastline, and home to part of the world’s second-largest barrier reef, the paradise-like beaches and beautiful underwater world are reason enough to visit Mexico’s Riviera Maya. But then there are the inland gems to discover, too. From ancient Maya cities to swimmable cenotes (sinkholes) and fun water parks, there is something to keep everyone entertained.

Eat: Discover classic Mexican tostadas at Las Hijas de la Tostada Restaurant in Tulum. Choose from seafood flavors that include caramel shrimp as well as marlin cheese; and enjoy them alfresco at the open-air eatery.

Day-Trip: A trip to trendy Tulum is a must. Begin the day delving into the mysterious Maya history with a visit to Tulum’s ancient ruins, which are perched atop a cliff and home to two beaches. Finish your Tulum travels sipping mojitos made with fresh sugarcane juice at Batey Mojito and Guarapo Bar.
